Murder Warrant Issued Against Man for Beating Death of His Uncle
April 18, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
An arrest warrant charging criminal homicide has been issued against Larry D. Holmes, Jr. for last Friday’s beating death of his uncle inside their 6084 Beals Lane home in North Nashville.
Holmes, 35, has psychological issues and is presently confined to Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. He will be booked on the murder warrant in the near future.
Holmes is accused of attacking and fatally injuring his uncle, Johnny Odom, 59. The police department was called to the home at 10 a.m. on April 11 by Metro Health Department representatives and mental health workers who were visiting for separate issues. They reported that Holmes answered the door with blood on his face. They saw considerable blood inside the residence and Odom down on the floor.
North Precinct Officers Nathan Mayo and James Wray responded. Just as they stepped inside and saw Odom, Holmes attacked them and drove them onto the front porch. The officers wrestled with Holmes for a brief time before subduing him. He is also charged with officer assault.
Mental health workers had come to the residence after receiving a report from a relative that Holmes had shoved her and was behaving strangely.
North Precinct Detective Melody Saxon is leading this investigation.
