Department of Emergency Communications 2017 Annual Report

It is with great pleasure that we present to you the Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) annual report for the year 2017.

Once again, the men and women of DEC worked tirelessly to ensure the needs of citizens calling for non-emergency & 9-1-1 services, as well as the needs of our first responders, were met with promptness and professionalism. As with previous years, we continue to see an increase in the number of calls received, with 2017 bringing us a total of 1,637,862 non-emergency & 9-1-1 calls combined. This is an increase of 10%.

2017 was also the year for our fourth re-accreditation and fifth award with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). From the 213 standards for Public Safety Communications Agencies, it is with great pride that I share we were found to be in compliance the standards and absolutely no deficiencies were found! This effort was led by our CALEA Manager, Nioka Curtis, and the excellent results were achieved by all employees of the DEC.
