Agency to open Seven new Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms beginning next month

Nashville, TN— The Metropolitan Action Commission has immediate openings as teachers and assistant teachers in its Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

The agency administers early learning programs for children as young as 18 months to 5 years as well as services to expectant mothers and infants, making Metro Action the largest provider of early childhood education for children birth to five in Davidson County.

Teachers and Assistant Teachers positions are full-time salaried positions with full benefits such as medical, dental and vision through Metro Government. Teachers also receive an extended summer break. There are also substitute teacher positions and part-time extended care positions available as well.

“We are opening three new Head Start classrooms and four new Early Head Start classrooms at five of our pre-school centers beginning next month,” said Dr. Phara Fondren, Head Start and Early Head Start Director of Metro Action.

Head Start and Early Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through local programs, such as Metro Action throughout the country. Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the mental, social, and emotional development of children from birth to age 5.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funds the Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Metro Action has administered the Head Start program since in creation in 1964 and Early Head Start since 2010.

The agency has 1,485 children enrolled in 7 Metro Action centers and 2 partnering locations.
