Metro Action Resource Day Offers Help and Employment Opportunities

Agency open until 6:00 p.m. accepting applications for employment and help to families in need

Nashville, TN— The Metropolitan Action Commission will host its first Resource Day to showcase programs and services that help families with low incomes become more economically secure on Tuesday, November 29 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Community Action Resource Day will offer information about all of the programs and services offered by Metro Action as well as a mini job fair to accept applications for available employment opportunities within the agency.

“We decided to stay open a little later than usual to accommodate the needs of families that may work during the day or have other obligations that make coming to us difficult during the daytime hours,” said Marvin Cox, Community Programs Director.

The Metropolitan Action Commission is the designated community action agency for Nashville and Davidson County charged with eliminating the barriers of poverty. Metro Action serves about 20,000 families with low incomes each year through Head Start, Early Head Start and Community Services.

Head Start and Early Head Start is the largest provider of early childhood education for children birth to five in Davidson County. Community Services provides high school equivalency/GED preparation and College Prep classes and the MAC 4 Jobs Program provides a multigenerational approach to impacting poverty through job readiness support, career placement and training for families within Head Start, Early Head Start and Adult Education.

The agency also assist families with utility, mortgage and rent payments, prescription costs, utility and rental deposits for homeless residents and property tax assistance for senior citizens. The agency employs an average of 325 staff at 8 locations throughout the county.

The agency opens at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, however the showcase will begin at 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Metro Action is located at 800 2nd Avenue North.
