Pedestrian Fatally Injured on Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue

The pedestrian killed just before 7 p.m. Saturday while attempting to cross Old Hickory Boulevard near Highway 70 South in Bellevue is identified as Jose Escobar, 66, who lived on Old Hickory Boulevard.

Escobar had apparently just left the Kroger store on Highway 70 South and was crossing the street to return to his apartment when he was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by William Darden, 62, of Bellevue. Darden reported that he did not see Escobar until he walked into Darden’s travel lane. It was raining at the time of the collision. Escobar was crossing Old Hickory Boulevard about 500 feet away from the nearest crosswalk.

There was no evidence of impairment on the part of Darden. No charges are anticipated against him.
