Pedestrian Killed Thursday Night on Trinity Lane Identified
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The pedestrian killed just after 9 p.m. Thursday while attempting to cross Trinity Lane near Meridian Street is identified as William Smith, 47, who lived on Prince Avenue.
Smith was struck by a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Isaiah Bowman, 19, of Tucker Road. The preliminary investigation indicates that Bowman was traveling west on Trinity Lane in a line of traffic that was slowing for Smith as he crossed the roadway. According to a witness, Bowman had pulled into the middle turn lane and was attempting to pass the slowing traffic when he struck Smith. After the collision, Bowman’s car left the roadway and struck a brick mailbox and metal fence. Bowman was transported to Skyline Medical Center with minor injuries. Smith, who was not in a crosswalk, died at the scene.
There was no evidence of impairment on the part of Bowman. Contributing factors to this fatal crash appear to be pedestrian in the roadway and improper passing. Upon completion, the crash investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
