Restoration Ceremony for Frederick Douglass Park

Mayor Megan Barry, Councilman Scott Davis and Metro Parks will officially “clarify and rectify” the name of Frederick Douglass Park during a restoration ceremony scheduled for noon, Wednesday, March 22 at the park, which is located at 210 North 7th Street.

During its meeting earlier in the month, the Parks Board voted unanimously to “clarify and correct” the name of what was once known as Fred Douglas Park to Frederick Douglass Park.

The vote to correct the name of the park came after the Board concluded that there was compelling evidence that the park was named after Frederick Douglass, the renowned African American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and Statesman.
