The new bridge will open on Monday at 10 a.m.

Metro Public Works will be opening the new Division Street Extension Bridge to traffic on Monday, October 16 at 10 a.m. after morning rush hour.

The new complete street runs from 2nd Avenue South to 8th Avenue South and allows for new connections between Music Row, Vanderbilt, Belmont, Midtown, The Gulch, Fulton Campus, Howard Office Building and Rolling Mill Hill.

Another change occurring on Monday is 2nd Avenue to Ash Street will now be two-way traffic. Currently that is a one-way section.

“This bridge provides a vital link from the Gulch to SoBro, while also connecting to a number of other key points in the city,” said Metro Public Works Director Mark Sturtevant. “This is why we need to continue to invest in our infrastructure and build more complete streets that accommodate and improve vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle access.”

Full completion of the bridge will occur in mid-November and will feature a pedestrian plaza, wide sidewalks, and a buffered cycle track separated from the roadway via a combination of bollards and landscaping amenities which will capture and filter stormwater runoff. The project includes LED lighting, including along the rails of the bridge.

The project was led by the Metro Public Works Engineering Division, project team members include Gresham, Smith & Partners, Bell & Associates Construction, L.P., HDR | ICA Engineering, Inc.
