Father Admits to Fatally Shooting Armed Son During Heated Confrontation

North Precinct detectives are continuing to investigate a 42-year-old father’s claim of self-defense in today’s fatal shooting of his 20-year-old son inside their 604 Malta Drive home.

Mario Ford Sr. admits to shooting his son, Mario Ford Jr., in the neck during a heated confrontation in the family room of the residence.  Ford Sr. had told his son that he needed to move out.

The investigation shows that both men recently armed themselves with pistols due to their continuing dispute.  Ford Sr. reported that his son pulled his gun first today, prompting him to draw his and shoot.

The fatal shooting investigation will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office for a determination on whether charges will be placed in the death of Mario Ford Jr.  Ford Sr., who has prior felony aggravated assault convictions, was arrested and charged with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.
