Suspected Robber Fatally Wounded Saturday Night at South Nashville Apartment Complex

Fatal gunfire Saturday night at Whispering Oaks Apartments off Harding Place in South Nashville is connected to a drug-related attempted robbery. The deceased is identified as suspected robber Brad Gill, 37, of Nashville, a convicted cocaine felon. Two other suspected robbers fled and are at large.

Two other persons, 21-year-old and 15-year-old residents of the apartment where the attempted robbery was taking place, were wounded by gunfire. They are being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The 15-year-old has told detectives that he heard a commotion in the living room of the apartment and saw the 21-year-old being held on the floor at gunpoint by persons he did not know. At some point during the continuing altercation, the victims were shot.

When that gunfire occurred, Sean Thomas, 27, the brother of the 21-year-old, was in the parking lot, having arrived to visit. Thomas said he grabbed his gun and headed toward the apartment building door when the suspected robbers ran out and shot at him. Thomas said he returned the gunfire. He said the two suspected robbers fled in separate vehicles.

Multiple pounds of marijuana were recovered at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
