12-Year-Old Girl Being Charged with the Overnight Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Brentrice Wilson

Madison Precinct detectives have determined that a 12-year-old girl is responsible for firing the early morning fatal gunshot that killed 16-year-old Brentrice Wilson inside an apartment in the Falcon View complex at 201 E. Palestine Avenue.

After consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, the 12-year-old is being charged at Juvenile Court with criminal homicide.

Madison Precinct officers responded to a shooting call at the apartment at 3:25 a.m. Several juvenile girls were inside, along with the 12-year-old’s grandmother, who is the apartment tenant. The investigation at present shows that the group of juvenile girls snuck out of the apartment without the grandmother’s knowledge, went to a nearby parking lot, and began pulling on car door handles. They found an unlocked vehicle and burglarized it. Taken during the burglary was a loaded semi-automatic pistol. The girls brought the gun back to the apartment. The 12-year-old is alleged to have been handling it and pointing it at other girls when the gun discharged, fatally wounding Brentrice Wilson. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
