Stormwater Improvement Project on First Avenue

Potential for Traffic Congestion

Nashville, Tenn. - Construction activity to repair and improve existing stormwater infrastructure in First Avenue North is scheduled to begin March 19, 2018.

Construction activities will take place in the center of First Avenue North between Broadway and the Shelby Pedestrian Bridge and will require lane changes. Uniformed police officers will be utilized to maintain two-way traffic flow and assist MTA, motorists and pedestrians.

Construction will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. First Avenue North will be plated and clear of construction equipment during non- work hours. The anticipated project completion date is May 17, 2018.

This project will reduce road flooding that has previously impacted drivers on First Ave during heavy rains.

The project includes the replacement of an aging, undersized pipe with a 24” ductile iron pipe, repair of existing infrastructure, and installation of three new storm drains.

The contractor, Walker Building Group, LLC, will coordinate with MTA and special events in the downtown area to minimize disruption to scheduled routes, events and tourism.

Water and sewer service to area businesses and residents will not be affected by this project.
