Two Teens in Custody; Two Carjacked Vehicles Recovered

Two teens, Antonio Lewis Jr., 16, and Jason Johns Jr., 17, are charged in Juvenile Court with aggravated robbery after both admitted their involvement in taking a woman’s car at gunpoint this afternoon outside an apartment complex at 3417 Lebanon Pike.

A description of the victim’s Hyundai Elantra was aired and a police helicopter spotted the car and directed ground units to 501 Ben Allen Road where Johns, the driver, was taken into custody. Lewis, and a female passenger, fled in a black Toyota Camry that had been taken at gunpoint Sunday night outside an apartment complex at 380 Harding Place. Lewis and the young woman bailed from the vehicle near South 4th Street and Shelby Avenue. Lewis, of South 4th Street, was captured after a brief foot pursuit. A handgun was recovered nearby. The female passenger, believed to be 17, eluded capture.

During the foot pursuit, Officer Trevin Tolbert activated his emergency equipment and was slowly driving into the intersection of South 4th Street and Shelby Avenue when a civilian driver accidentally struck the police car. Officer Tolbert and his partner/front seat passenger, Officer Brenda Navarro, were transported to Skyline Medical Center where they were both treated and released.
