Metro Arts and Keep Shop Launch The Scarf Project
Exclusive, Artist-Designed Scarves Support Local Arts
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville residents and visitors can now support local arts through the purchase of an exclusive piece of wearable art, with today’s launch of The Scarf Project at the Noelle hotel’s Keep Shop.
Twice a year, The Scarf Project, a creative collaboration of Metro Arts and Keep Shop, will showcase the work of a Nashville-based visual artist on a custom-printed scarf available exclusively at Keep Shop. Half of the sales generated by The Scarf Project will go to support Metro Arts' Learning Lab, an award-winning creative development program that trains artists in civic, public, social and place-making practices.
The first edition of The Scarf Project features Spirit Heirloom, Moonlight on a Shimmering Rock, a 2017 piece by textile artist Vadis Turner. The piece is part of a series of textile paintings inspired by the legacies of local elders that was executed with the support of Metro Arts and first exhibited at Nashville's Frist Art Museum.
“We’re grateful to the Noelle and to Libby Callaway for initiating projects that support local artists,” said Interim Director Caroline Vincent. “Nashville’s arts ecosystem grows stronger each day with this type of public/private partnership. We encourage creative organizations and businesses to join together to support more Nashville-based artists.”
Keep Shop’s Callaway agreed: “Keep Shop’s goal is to spotlight the best designs coming out of Nashville’s burgeoning fashion, maker and art communities,” said Callaway. “The Scarf Project gives us the chance to feature the work of fabulous local artists like Vadis, while giving back to Metro Arts. It feels really good to know that our donation will go toward helping them grow the community we celebrate in the store.”
The Scarf Project scarves retail for $85, exclusively at Keep Shop. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
