Metro Parks’ Centennial Art Center opens its annual international exhibit, Get Cultured. The event is a prelude to the Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival that takes place in Centennial Park—this multicultural festival celebrates Nashville’s diversity; Centennial Art Center joins Celebrate Nashville in its goal to foster diversity in the city and middle Tennessee. This year’s exhibit will showcase a vibrant display of paintings, mixed media art, ceramics and photography from a varied group of international artists who now reside in Nashville. Get Cultured opens with an artist reception Friday, October 5, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will continue on display through October 30, 2018.

Centennial Art Center is proud to host many talented artists this year: Jana Rohlickova (ceramics, Czech Republic), Voymir Mustapich (painting, Croatia), Emi Watts (painting, Japan), James Makuac (painting, South Sudan), Kimiko Sakai (photography, Japan), Liliana Diaz (painting, Mexico), Lucy Cline (painting, Taiwan), Manali Shah (painting, India), Margaret Hartge (fiber art, Norway), Nadine Wondem (painting, Dominica), Noriko Register (painting, Japan), Nuveen Barwari (mixed-media art, Kurdistan), Premi John (painting, India), Vidya Rao (painting, India), Rita Kennedy (framed illustration and children’s books, Italy), Vijay Makrandi (painting, India), Yasmine El-Chaer (mixed media, Palestine) and Toki Sato (Japan).

This exhibit provides the public with a unique opportunity to engage with the artists, hear their stories and learn how their diverse cultural backgrounds influence their artwork. During the gallery reception, popular international dishes unique to artists’ cultures will be available to sample. The reception will be held at Centennial Art Center located at 301 25th Avenue North in the northeast corner of Nashville’s Centennial Park. The international celebration will continue Saturday, October 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the front of Centennial Park where the Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival will be taking place. The Art Center’s staff will be hosting a booth at the festival in the Children’s Area for visitors of all ages to participate in various art activities.
