Mayor David Briley announced today the appointment of Thomas Mulgrew to press secretary. With a deep background in health policy and communications, current press secretary Judith Byrd will fill the role of Senior Health Advisor to the Mayor.

Mulgrew comes to the Mayor’s Office from MP&F Strategic Communications where he has helped oversee public affairs and issues campaigns since 2015. Previously, he worked for a boutique public relations firm in New York and as a website editor, writer and contributor. Mulgrew also volunteered on the 2007 Karl Dean for Mayor campaign.

“Thomas is known for his tenacity, strategic thinking and strong writing skills. He has been involved in a number of important citywide issue campaigns and his experience will serve him well in this post,” said Mayor Briley.

Mulgrew joins the Mayor’s communications team led by Chief Communications Officer Laura Braam and including Digital Director Sam Warlick.

“I am incredibly honored to have been given the opportunity to join Mayor Briley's staff,” Mulgrew said. “I look forward to working with the wonderful people there, and am confident that we will continue to serve our city with professionalism and integrity."

A Nashville native, Mulgrew serves on the board of PENCIL. He graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts in History.

Mulgrew will start with the administration on October 29, and Byrd will start in her new role on October 30.
