Suspected Robber Fatally Wounded During Gunfire at South Nashville Apartment Complex

The man shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire at a unit of Hickory Club Apartments on Hickory Club Drive at 7:15 Wednesday night is believed to have come there to commit a robbery.

The deceased is identified as Michael Wayne Jefferson, 36, of Ames Drive. His apparent accomplice, Taleel Green, 19, of Sioux Terrace Drive, was shot in the leg and is recovering.

Witness statements to this point lead South Precinct detectives to believe that Jefferson and Green showed up at the apartment, pulled guns and tried to rob the residents. Two of them retrieved pistols and opened fire. During the exchange of shots, Jefferson was fatally wounded, Green was hit in the leg, and resident Toddrell Bell, 20, was critically wounded in the chest. Bell’s friends transported him to StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna before officers arrived.

A search of the apartment revealed more than two pounds of marijuana and cash. The investigation is continuing.
