19-Year-Old Asben Chapman Charged with 1st Degree Murder & Aggravated Robbery in 2018 Cases
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MNPD Warrants Division officers today returned 19-year-old Asben Chapman to Nashville to face charges for his alleged involvement in a March 2018 head-on collision on Knight Drive that killed one of the drivers.
Tronyesha Armstrong, 19, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze north on Knight Drive when the car traveled into the southbound lane while negotiating a curve, striking a 2005 Honda Civic. The driver of the Honda, Robin Jenkins, 52, died at the scene. Armstrong and her passenger told officers that they were fleeing from persons in another vehicle who were shooting at them.
Investigation by North Precinct detectives shows that Chapman was the gunman who fired shots at Armstrong and her passenger, causing the fatal crash. The motive for the shooting reportedly stemmed from an argument involving a social media post.
Chapman, who was indicted for 1st degree murder last August, had been jailed in Coffee County on unrelated charges.
Additionally, Chapman was charged with aggravated robbery for a June 2018 armed hold-up of a 12-year-old who was out walking. Chapman is being held in lieu of $200,000 bond.
