Closures Anticipated to Last One Month
Metro Nashville Public Works will close Foster Avenue to through traffic between Glenrose Avenue and Murfreesboro Pike to replace the bridge over the CSX Railroad. The road closure will begin on April 1, 2019 and the closure is anticipated to last one month. The bridge will be replaced using accelerated construction methods in an effort to minimize the closure length.
The bridge was built in the 1950’s and was designed for two (2) travel lanes and sidewalk on each side of the bridge. As with all bridges maintained by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, the bridge is inspected and rated by TDOT every two years. Prior inspections leading to a “poor” rating have prompted the replacement of the bridge.
The contractor is currently working on pre-constructing some of the bridge components in an effort to minimize impacts to roadway use for vehicular traffic. During the road closure in April 2019, the existing bridge will be removed and replaced.
Message boards have been in place for the past four weeks to notify drivers of the coming closure. Local two-way traffic will be allowed to access businesses within the construction limits on Foster Avenue. A map is attached with the detour route.
