Evening Demonstrations of New Voting Equipment Announced

Jeff Roberts, 615-862-8813

The Davidson County Election Commission will hold evening demonstrations of new voting equipment at five regional community centers, beginning Monday, June 24. The new technology supports a voter-verified paper audit trail, and will be put into service during the August 1 Metropolitan General Election.

“We are anxious to introduce our new state-of-the-art equipment to voters,” said Jeff Roberts, administrator of elections. “While our midday demonstrations at neighborhood libraries have been popular, we know some voters will find evenings more convenient, particularly at a regional community center. We want voters to have an opportunity to practice, so they will know what to expect in our next election.”

Participants will receive firsthand experience using the new equipment, after election officials conduct a short demonstration.

“The most noticeable change will be the paper ballot,” continued Roberts. “Voters will insert a blank ballot into the ballot marking device and then make their selections on a touch screen. After printing their marked paper ballot, they will review their selections and proceed to a secure tabulating scanner to cast their vote.”
