70% of Vehicles Stolen in Nashville from June 30-July 6 Were Taken with Keys
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A head-shaking 70% of the automobiles stolen in Nashville from June 30 through July 6 (43 of 61) were taken with keys.
As the attached video shows, thieves are out in neighborhoods as Nashville sleeps looking for easy targets (vehicles that are left unlocked and/or vehicles with a key left inside). In the video from Chester Avenue during the early morning hours of July 6, the young men jump out of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was stolen on July 4 from a home on Northview Avenue in East Nashville. The Grand Cherokee was apparently left unlocked. It is believed the thieves used a spare key that had been left inside to drive it away.
The guy in the video found at this link: Surveillance Video, wearing the camo shirt who tries the door on the white Ford SUV is carrying an object in his hand that resembles a pistol.
Regardless of whether you are parking at home, work, or a shopping center, MNPD officers implore our citizens to secure all valuables, lock vehicle doors and remove any keys that may be inside, including valet keys.
Anyone recognizing any of the young men in the video is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
