Motorcyclist Fatally Injured on I-65 Sunday Night Identified

The motorcyclist fatally injured Sunday at 8:20 p.m. when he collided with the rear of a car on I-65 North near Rosa L. Parks Boulevard is identified as Larry Neely Jr., 49, of Cheektowaga, New York.

The preliminary investigation shows that Neely was riding his 2005 Honda motorcycle north on I-65 in slowing traffic when he collided with the rear of a 2015 Chevrolet Cruz driven by Collin Kunkemoeller, 24, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Neely, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Kunkemoeller reported that prior to the crash, he had stopped in order to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of him. The preliminary contributing factor to the crash appears to be improper following on the part of the motorcyclist.
