The Pedestrian Critically Injured Friday on Main Street Has Died from His Injuries



The pedestrian critically injured Friday at 8:10 p.m. on Main Street at North 8th Street has died.

Carlee Pitts Jr., 72, was crossing Main Street when he reportedly walked out in front of a 2008 BMW SUV driven by Shaun Hartas, 37. Hartas fled the scene. He was located at his North 14th Street residence where he admitted to driving the SUV. A DUI officer responded to the scene but did not find any indicators of impairment on the part of Hartas.

Pitts was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing.

Hartas was issued misdemeanor citations for leaving the scene of an injury accident, failure to give information/render aide, and immediate notice of accident.

Pitts, who was homeless, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died today.
