Community Shred Day, Sponsored by Nashville Crime Stoppers, is Saturday at Nissan Stadium

Nashville Crime Stoppers, Shred-It and the MNPD are once again teaming up to provide a way for you to safely dispose of outdated/unwanted sensitive paperwork like tax returns, bank statements, credit card receipts, and other documents that contain personal information.
This year’s Community Shred Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in parking lots B & D at Nissan Stadium. All documents and paperwork brought by Middle Tennesseans will be destroyed on the spot by mobile high-speed cross shredders provided by Shred-it, a Stericycle Solution, the world’s leading on-site document destruction firm. The only cost is a minimum $5 tax deductible donation to Crime Stoppers per box of records. All proceeds go to Crime Stoppers’ reward fund, which is used to help solve serious felony crimes in the Nashville community.
Pharma Trash Disposal
Included on the same site will be Crime Stoppers’ FREE Pharma Trash Disposal. Metro police officers will collect prescription medications that are outdated and/or no longer needed and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner. This program provides consumers an alternative to improperly disposing of medications in household trash or down the toilet.
Auto Theft detectives will also be on hand offering VIN etching for a minimum $10 donation to Crime Stoppers. VIN etching involves the use of acid to etch small vehicle identification numbers into every window of the vehicle and is a deterrent to theft.
About Crime Stoppers of Nashville
For 36 years, Nashville Crime Stoppers has provided an avenue for persons to anonymously report information on crimes and criminal suspects to the police department. Thousands of tips have been received, resulting in the clearance of 220 murders, 798 armed robberies and 344 burglaries. Those tips have also led to the apprehension of more than 5,365 fugitives. Crime Stoppers’ reward payouts total $568,800. The funds come from donations made by area businesses and individuals. No tax dollars are ever used to pay Crime Stoppers rewards.
Since the first Community Shred Day in April 2010, 306,950 pounds of paper have been shredded (the equivalent of 2,610 trees), 1,125 pounds of prescription drugs have been dropped off for safe disposal, $57,809 in donations have been received, and 91 vehicles have been etched.
