Sunday's Fatal Shooting of TSU Student in Dorm Room Now Classified as Homicide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
North Precinct detectives are now classifying Sunday’s fatal wounding of a TSU student inside a room at Watson Hall dormitory as a homicide after an autopsy.
The MNPD did not get involved in this case until after 1 p.m. Sunday (a significant delay) when officers were notified that Rickey B. Scott, 19, of Ohio, was being transferred from Centennial Medical Center to Skyline Medical Center with a critical gunshot wound to his torso that was discovered during an examination at Centennial. Scott was transported by ambulance to Centennial for what was believed to have been a non-trauma related medical issue. Scott died Sunday afternoon at Skyline.
Based on the investigation thus far, detectives believe Scott was shot at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday. Detectives interviewed multiple persons Sunday and today and have reviewed campus surveillance video. The gun involved has not been recovered despite the execution of a search warrant Sunday at the dorm room.
This investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the case can share it anonymously with Crime Stoppers by calling 615-742-7463.
