McGavock High School Student Charged with Carrying a Gun on Campus and Auto Theft
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Officers today charged an 18-year-old 11th grader at McGavock High School with carrying a loaded nine millimeter pistol on campus along with three counts of auto theft.
Investigation by MNPD Auto Theft detectives led to the identification of Sodonnie Bufford as a person wanted in connection to auto thefts. Bufford was seen pulling into the school parking lot today in a stolen 2018 Toyota Highlander. He got out of the SUV and placed the gun into the trunk of another car. Officers received consent to search that vehicle and recovered the pistol, which had been reported stolen.
In addition to carrying a gun on school property, vehicle theft, and theft of property (stolen gun), Bufford is also charged with two other vehicle thefts. The first occurred on Saturday when the victim left his 2009 Infinity with the keys in the ignition and unlocked outside Mapco at 765 Bell Road. The second vehicle, a 2011 GMC Denali, was taken on Tuesday after the SUV was left running and unattended outside Mapco at 1101 Bell Road.
Bufford is jailed in lieu of $25,000 bond.
