Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision on Old Hickory Boulevard Identified

The man killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and city WeGo Transit bus on Old Hickory Boulevard near Lawing Drive is identified as John M. Irwin, 29, of Clarksville.

The preliminary investigation shows that Irwin was driving a 2004 Tahoe westbound on Old Hickory Boulevard when he crossed over the double yellow line and struck the eastbound bus, which then travelled off the road into a yard. Irwin died at the scene. The bus driver, Christie Reynolds, 46, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. There were two passengers on the bus. They were not injured. Witnesses reported that Irwin had been driving erratically prior to the crash, including swerving on the roadway. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether impairment, on the part of Irwin, was a contributing factor to this fatal crash.
