71% of Stolen Automobiles Taken with Keys Between February 2-8
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, February 2 through Saturday, February 8, shows that 71% of the automobiles taken (42 of 59) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Eight of the 59 vehicles stolen were left warming up without the driver present.
During the same period, a total of 12 guns were stolen from vehicles, putting innocent persons in our community at risk.
The police department strongly urges gun owners to take steps to secure their weapons and, of course, to remove the keys when leaving cars and trucks unattended.
