Sobriety Checkpoint Planned for St. Patrick's Day
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Metro police officers will be staffing a sobriety checkpoint on West End Avenue during the late night hours of Tuesday, March 17, as part of the MNPD’s effort to enhance traffic safety in recognition that St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and parties are sometimes accompanied by excessive drinking.
The checkpoint will be staffed by the DUI Unit along with extra-duty officers working through a grant from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
Those celebrating St. Patrick’s Day are strongly urged to not drink and drive. Officers throughout the city will be closely watching for impaired and/or aggressive motorists.
In 2019, 41% of fatal crashes in Davidson County involved impairment. Additionally, the department responded to more than 800 crashes involving alcohol impairment with more than 500 injuries as a result.
