MNPD Sergeant Saves the Life of a 15-Month-Old Girl
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Some good news to end the week.
North Precinct Sergeant Matt White this evening saved the life of 15-month-old girl.
Sergeant White, a 6-year MNPD veteran, had exited Briley Parkway at County Hospital Road at 5:40 p.m. and was waiting for the car in front of him to turn when it suddenly rolled forward into a semi-truck.
It turns out the 19-year-old driver had looked at her daughter, Sylvia, in the back seat, saw that she had lost color in her face and her lips were blue, and reached for Sylvia in panic. Doing so, she took her foot off the brake.
As Sergeant White was getting out of his police car to check on the car’s occupants after the crash, the young mother came running to him with her limp child. Sergeant White immediately began infant CPR and successfully dislodged an item blocking the girl’s airway. She began to breathe again and color returned to her face. She was transported to a hospital as a precaution.
