Man Faces Aggravated Robbery Charges After Hold-Up in Mall Parking Lot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Desean Jackson, 27, will be charged with aggravated robbery for Wednesday’s 7:15 p.m. hold-up in an Opry Mills Drive parking lot.
Three men reported that they left Opry Mills Mall and were about to enter their vehicle when Jackson approached the passenger side and demanded their belongings at gunpoint. The driver retrieved his handgun from inside the vehicle as Jackson reportedly took shopping bags from the passenger side. As Jackson then attempted to get into a nearby car, the victim who had retrieved his handgun reported that he heard a gunshot prior to firing his weapon in self-defense. Jackson was struck in the knee. He fell to the ground and the getaway driver fled, leaving him behind. Jackson then fled on foot. Officers located him a short time later walking on Briley Parkway where he was taken into custody. A handgun was recovered from the parking lot where Jackson had fallen. He was positively identified as the robber. Jackson was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was treated and released into custody. He was booked on an outstanding felony probation violation warrant and remains jailed.
It is unknown at this time whether shots fired by the victim or possibly from a person inside the suspect vehicle struck Jackson. The investigation continues.
