Pedestrian Killed in Friday Night's Hit and Run Collision on Lafayette Street



The pedestrian struck and killed Friday night by a hit and run driver on Lafayette Street near Fairfield Avenue is identified as a 41-year-old homeless man. Efforts are underway to notify his next of kin.

The preliminary investigation shows that he was crossing Lafayette Street at 11:15 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound charcoal grey Hyundai sedan. The pedestrian, who was not in a crosswalk, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

According to witnesses, the Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.
