Civil Rights Attorney Z. Alexander Looby circa mid 1950'sThe Z. Alexander Looby Theater

The Z. Alexander Looby Theater ("The Looby") is named after the famed Nashville-based civil rights leader, and is home to a wide variety of programming.  Located at 2301 Rosa L. Parks Blvd in North Nashville, the facility offers events presented by The Metro Parks Theater and Music Departments , as well as events presented by other organizations through partnerships and rentals.

Metro Parks Cultural Arts Performances

The Z. Alexander Looby Theater is home to many of Metro Parks Cultural Arts own performances from the Theater, Music and Dance departments,  including:

  • Young Performers Program's  Summer Musical
  • Centennial Youth Ballet Spring Dance Concert
  • Monthly New Play-Reading Series
  • "jam-band" End-of-Session Concerts

Partnership Performances: Tennessee Women's Theatre Project

The Looby Theater also is proud to have an on-going partnership with the Tennessee Women's Theatre Project, that brings three events per year to the theater.  One of the favorites each year is their "Women's Work" Festival, that highlights the creative talents of women through new work in the performing arts.  The festival is wonderful, and affordable, opportunity to see the latest work from talented playwrights, poets, choreographers, filmmakers and more.  Their website,
