The Planning Department provides design guidance, reviews zoning and subdivision applications, and shapes public policy related to growth, preservation, and development. The Planning Department provides guidance and recommendations to the Planning Commission. Our Community Design team works on NashvilleNext (the city's comprehensive long-range plan), updates and amends community, neighborhood, transportation, and corridor plans throughout Davidson County, develops community priorities, and provides advice on the creation of livable, appropriate development based on each community's design character, needs, and goals.
Our Land Development team processes and reviews subdivisions, zone changes, and other applications related to the zoning code, advises the community on the application and approval process, and answers numerous property questions from the public daily.

Our Mapping/GIS team provides numerous maps and digital data for Metro Departments and the public and maintains a complete and accurate set of Davidson County maps that show the location, size, and boundary of every land parcel in the county.
Our online property maps provide information on zoning and land use, and our what your zoning allows page explains zoning classifications.
Our Capital Improvements Planning team works on Nashville's capital improvements budget, a planning tool to prioritize and coordinate investments in long-term, durable improvements. In doing that, the team works with communities, Metro Councilmembers, and Metro departments to prioritize budget items.

Our front counter is open 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Development applications, zone changes, and other filings are accepted at the front counter until 3:30 p.m., or until noon on filing deadline days. The Planning Department office is open 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
