Hart Lane Pedestrian Improvements

August 2020 Update

The contractor continues excavation and hauling from the rock bluff along Hart Lane. All blasting of limestone rock is believed to be complete as of July 30, 2020. Work has begun on construction of new curb and gutter section on the side south side of Hart Lane.

Next month: The construction contractor will continue work on excavating the limestone bluff abutting the sidewalks on Hart Lane, west of Ellington Parkway. Work will shift from purely excavation to sidewalk construction and drainage improvements in August and September. Construction work is expected to last into early October.

Project Description

The proposed sidewalk improvements are needed to reconstruct existing sidewalks along Hart Lane from Jere Baxter Middle School to the western ramps to Ellington Parkway. These sidewalks have been closed for several years due to falling rock from the exposed pre-split limestone immediately adjacent to the sidewalks. Restoring this connectivity will provide safe pedestrian access and reconnect Jere Baxter Middle School with nearby residential neighborhoods west and east of the project.
