November 7 and 10, 2012 Page's Branch Creek Cleanup

Harpeth River Watershed Association hosted 54 volunteers to clean up remaining flood debris from in and around a tributary of Page's Branch Creek behind Donald Street in Nashville.

Metro Public Works and Beautification supplied the gloves and roll-off bins. Volunteers nearly filled 2 large roll-off industrial dumpsters with debris with a range of household items that were left behind from the May 2010 Flood, including water-logged carpet, clothing, a toilet bowl, mattresses, plastic bags, and lots of wood. Also removed 100 tires from what appeared to be an illegal dumping area.

November 3, 2012 Stream Watch Committee Mansker Creek Cleanup

Volunteers from throughout Middle Tennessee – from elementary–aged to senior adults and in between – met on Saturday, November 3, for a community cleanup of Mansker Creek in the Goodlettsville area of Davidson County. It was a great mix of young and old, coming together
with the common goal of improving water quality and their community. Stream clean–ups are a great confidence builder and further develop a sense of pride within an individual.

Items collected included: metal, household trash, tires, woody debris, landscaping materials, animal bones, household fixtures, concrete blocks, etc. Total area cleaned from the one staging area was approximately 1 stream mile, both sides of the banks, and buffer areas. Altogether, one truck load of metal was recovered and volunteers filled around 75 household trash bags (55 and 35–gallon sized).
