New Trash and Recycling Collection Schedule

To improve our curbside collection service in our growing city, trash and recycling collection will be moving from 4 days a week to 5 days a week starting Monday, November 2. As a result, most curbside customers will have a new collection day for curbside trash and/or recycling.

Additionally, ALL curbside customers will see a change to how trash and recycling are collected after holidays. If your trash and recycling collection day falls on a holiday, all collection days after the holiday in that week will be delayed by one day. For example, if the holiday is on a Monday, collection for Monday customers will be on Tuesday, Tuesday customers on Wednesday, Wednesday customers on Thursday, etc.

Why are we making a change to our collection service?

Nashville’s tremendous growth, the increase in residential waste due to COVID-19, and ongoing financial challenges has created a need to balance trash routes to improve collection services. Some areas of the city have grown more than others, and this has caused most customers to experience delays in trash collection service. Periodically balancing routes to accommodate changes in city growth and collection needs is not uncommon and is intended to resolve collection issues around the county.

How will I know if I have a new collection day?

You can look up your new collection day at and sign up for an email reminder. If you have already signed up for email reminders, you will automatically get updated reminders starting Monday, November 2 for your new collection schedule.

All curbside customers will also receive a letter from Metro Nashville Public Works with information on new collection services as well as what changes have been made to your collection day. You can also access an online map showing new trash collection days.

If you still have questions about your collection day, visit hubNashville or call 311.
