Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream

We are partnering with Urban Green Lab on a new educational series “Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream” focused on how Nashvillians can better reduce, reuse, and recycle and live more sustainably.

Free and open to the public, the series will be hosted by our Waste Reduction Program Manager, Jenn Harrman, and Urban Green Lab’s Sustainability Education Manager, Patrick King. “Sustainable in the City: Thinking Upstream” will feature interviews, presentations, and panel discussions with Nashville’s top experts in all areas of waste and sustainability.

This virtual series will be offered twice per month with new episodes airing on the second and fourth Wednesday at noon. The schedule for the second quarter of this new educational series is as follows:

Climate Change and Middle Tennessee

  • April 14– “A Changing Climate in Middle Tennessee”
  • April 28– “Planning for a Changing Climate in Nashville”

Green Building and Home Weatherization

  • May 12– “Living Buildings”
  • May 26– “Home Energy Efficiency”

Reduce and Reuse

Recycle Right Lunch n’ Learn

Do you have questions about recycling in Nashville? Join us for this virtual lunch 'n' learn workshop to learn about the importance of recycling and how to Recycle Right. This webinar will cover:

  • The 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  • How recycling works in Nashville
  • What can and cannot be recycled
  • Why not everything can be recycled

The Recycle Right Lunch ‘n’ Learn workshop is held once a month. Each webinar includes a chance to win a Get Rowdy Recycle t-shirt.

The Dirt on Composting

Backyard composting is an easy way to reduce your food waste and improve your garden soil to help plants grow. In this virtual workshop, you’ll learn about what compost is, why composting is good for the environment and your garden, and how to start composting at home. Each webinar includes two chances to win an Earth Machine Compost Bin.

Tree Talk with the Metro Tree Advisory Committee

Join members of the Tree Advisory Committee covering topics from favorite trees, tree health, tree lore, to community efforts to plant and sustain our tree canopy.

Learn how you can get involved and make a difference!

Metro Tree Advisory Committee mission is working closely with city departments and non-profit partners, is to recommend tree policies, educate the community about the benefits of trees and proper tree planting and care, and promote tree planting and preservation.

Tree Talk is held on the third Tuesday of the month at noon and features a new guest speaker and tree topic.

Managing the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Epidemic

To find out more about EAB in Nashville, register for this presentation which will review how to identify ash trees and management options. Also discussed will be the tree owner’s responsibility, how to hire an arborist and how to properly dispose of tree debris.
