Construction and Demolition Debris Management Plans

The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the review of proposed plans for the management and disposal of construction and demolition debris generated on permitted Construction and Demolition sites required by Metro code § 16-28-040D.
Starting July 1, 2021, applicants for commercial building permits, building demolition permits, and large multifamily residential building permits will be required to complete Debris Management Plans via an online form. The Construction and Demolition Debris Management Plans include how waste will be disposed and if debris will be recovered for reuse or recycling.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Construction and Demolition Debris

In Metro Nashville, 23% of the waste we send to landfill is created from Construction and Demolition waste, including wood, metal, concrete, asphalt, brick, and other valuable materials. When landfilled, this material can create greenhouse gases; yet, in many cases, it still has value as construction material for reuse or as raw material for recycling. Visit our Construction and Demolition Reuse and Recycling page to learn how you can significantly reduce the amount of waste you send to landfill and meet your project’s sustainable debris management goals.
