Water Quality Buffers

New development and significant redevelopment sites are required to preserve water quality buffers along Metro’s community waters, which include streams, rivers, springs, lakes, ponds, and wetlands. Please see Metro’s Stormwater Management Manual, Volume 1, Section 6.9 for additional information.

Metro Water Services (MWS) can perform community water determinations on a limited basis. Please contact Rebecca Dohn (615-880-2420) to determine if your property is eligible. A copy of the Community Water Determination Request signed by the property owner is required before the determination can be performed.

MWS accepts Hydrologic Determinations performed by Qualified Hydrologic Professionals certified by TDEC. Please visit the Tennessee Hydrologic Determination Training website for additional information. MWS will also accept Hydrologic Determinations performed by qualified professionals that understand the indicators of geomorphology, hydrology, and biology used to differentiate streams from wet weather conveyances. They will need to submit the following forms:

Hydrologic Determinations should be submitted to Rebecca Dohn
