Keith Durbin is the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology Services for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, a role he has held for four mayors of the Metro Government, since 2009.
During his tenure, Durbin has led the IT strategy for the Metro Government with a focus on reliability, availability and security of services. Among his accomplishments include establishing Metro Government’s information security program, the open data program, Metro’s owned-fiber network, Metro Public Wifi, and the hubNashville/311 system. He established the Metro Employee Emergency Support Fund (MEGEES) which provides financial assistance to Metro employees in times of catastrophic need.
Durbin led the Connected Nashville smart city strategy and has coordinated implementation of recommendations. He worked with Vanderbilt University to establish the Vanderbilt Institute for Smart Cities Operations and Research (VISOR) which develops and promotes research addressing real government issues. He established the office of Digital Inclusion and the Nashville Digital Inclusion fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Under his leadership, Nashville was selected as a Visionary Digital Inclusion Trailblazer by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance. In 2023, he earned the LocalSmart Awards City Executive of the Year award for outstanding leadership in state and local government technology.
A board member of the Nashville Technology Council, he is a graduate of Emory University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and of Cumberland University with a Masters of Public Service Management.
