Davidson County Register of Deeds Karen Johnson announced Thursday that beginning Friday, customers bringing documents to the Register’s office can deposit them in a secure document drop-off wall slot. The document drop-off slot has been installed by contractors inside the administrative office entrance of the Bridgestone Arena, next to the Register’s office doors.
Due to the coronavirus threat, the Register’s offices will have limited access to the public effective Friday until further notice.
“In light of the coronavirus pandemic and for the health and welfare of our customers, our dedicated staff, and the public at large, we are temporarily suspending our file-and-wait document service,” Johnson said. “Documents may still be e-filed, and customers may continue to file documents by mail addressed to Davidson County Register of Deeds, P.O. Box 196398, Nashville, TN 37219-6398.”
For those customers who ordinarily come to the Register’s office, a secure document drop-off slot will be available starting Friday inside 501 Broadway where documents can be dropped for processing. Appropriately sized envelopes and instructions for using this service and paying fees will be prominently posted near the document drop-off slot, and staff will be available at 615-862-6790 to answer any questions. Those with bulk drop-offs should call 615-862-6790 to arrange for delivering their documents. After recording and fee payment, documents submitted that have been appropriately processed will be returned by mail.
Customers may still enter the Bridgestone Arena through the administrative office entrance at the corner of Broadway and 6th Avenue South, where signage will direct them to the secure document drop-off slot. Parking is between 6th and 7th Avenues South in front of First Baptist Church. Spaces are marked with yellow bags noting that they are for the Register of Deeds office.
Anyone who needs information about documents or filing with the Register’s office is encouraged to call 615-862-6790 for assistance. Staff remains on duty to assist with questions and conduct office business. Information about obtaining documents online is available on the Register of Deeds web page.
The Register of Deeds office has taken the concerns of COVID-19 seriously, and additional measures to ensure the health of our employees and customers is our top priority. The office has been deep-cleaned by the janitorial company contracted to deep-clean the Bridgestone Arena, where events have been postponed, and the Nashville Predators’ season has been paused by the National Hockey League. Every employee workstation has an adequate supply of Clorox wipes, gloves, and previously purchased hand sanitizer in response to the coronavirus threat. The current configuration of the office is arranged with adequate social distancing, as recommended by the CDC and local health officials during the pandemic.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we try to do our part to protect our customers, our staff, and the Nashville community,” Register Johnson said.
