Customers may resume bringing documents into the Register of Deeds office effective Wednesday April 28, 2021, with safety protections against COVID-19 in place, according to Davidson County Register of Deeds Karen Johnson.
Metro Executive Order #8 (revised April 9, 2021) – which requires that masks be worn in all Metro buildings – remains in effect and masks are required. Additionally, those who enter the Register of Deeds Office will be screened by a digital no-touch temperature scanner, and no one with a temperature in excess of 99 degrees F will be permitted to enter the office.
"We will resume our file-and-wait document service and reopen our public computer and public access area," Register Johnson said. "As the percentage of Nashvillians vaccinated has reached the 40% mark, we are prepared to welcome customers back in our office. Among our staff, 90% have been vaccinated.
"For the protection of our customers and our employees, we will have a number of safety procedures in place. Anyone who enters our office as well as all employees are required to wear masks and use our no-touch temperature scanner before entering our public areas. No one without a mask or who has a temperature greater than 99 degrees will be allowed to enter.
"All areas where members of the public interact with our staff are surrounded by plexiglass that was installed in early 2020. We regularly sanitize surface areas throughout the office, and we are making masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer available as customers enter the office."
For those customers who do not wish to come inside the Register's office, documents may still be e-filed or filed by mail, addressed to Davidson County Register of Deeds, P.O. Box 196398, Nashville, TN 37219-6398. A secure document drop-off slot remains open in the hallway at the office entrance doors, with appropriately sized envelopes and instructions available.
Customers may enter the Bridgestone Arena through the administrative office entrance at the corner of Broadway and 6th Avenue South, where signage will direct them to the Register of Deeds office. Parking is available on Broadway near the corner of 6th Avenue South. Spaces are marked with yellow bags noting that they are for the Register of Deeds office. On Nashville Predators game days, the National Hockey League requires red No Parking bags, but those spaces are still available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to our customers.
"We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our customers over the past year as we all have had to adapt to unprecedented circumstances," Register Johnson said. "We are happy to welcome everyone once again into our office."
