RESOLUTION NO. R99-1531
A resolution honoring Denny Brewington as founder of the "Music City Bowl".
WHEREAS, Nashville lawyer Denny Brewington gave over 10 years of his life and 100% of creativity to single-handedly create the "Music City Bowl"; and
WHEREAS, the "Music City Bowl" is Tennessee's second national college football bowl game; and
WHEREAS, Denny Brewington spent time and money over a decade to allow America and the world to view ESPN's December 29, 1998, broadcast from Vanderbilt Stadium; and
WHEREAS, Denny Brewington's state and federally registered "service mark" game, the "Music City Bowl" will be played again this December in the Nashville Sports Authority's new 67,000 seat Titans NFL stadium; and
WHEREAS, Denny Brewington served as General Assembly staff during the 1970's under the auspices of State Senator Jim Robertson, before going on to create and achieve the "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Show on HBO; the Nashville Entertainment Association, and the "Trail of Hope" Native American benefit show; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Denny Brewington for his outstanding contributions to the city of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Denny Brewington as founder of the "Music City Bowl".
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is hereby directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Denny Brewington.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
