RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-152
A resolution proclaiming the week of April 9th through April 15th, 2000, as Crime Victims Rights Week.
WHEREAS, every individual, family and community in America has the right to live free from fear and harm; and
WHEREAS, while most crimes continue to decrease in our nation, the United States still experienced nearly 35 million criminal victimizations, including nearly nine million violent crimes; and
WHEREAS, crime victims and their advocates over the past two decades have made unparalleled progress in securing rights for crime victims in the criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, the citizens across America believe that Victims Rights are Right of America and the millions of survivors of crime and their families deserve justice; and
WHEREAS, as a nation devoted to liberty and justice for all, America must increase its efforts to protect, restore, and expand crime victims rights; and
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Council is joining forces with victim service programs, criminal justice officials and concerned citizens throughout Nashville, Tennessee and America to observe National Crime Victims Rights Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of April 9th through April 15th, 2000, as Crime Victims Rights Week.
SECTION 2. That The Metropolitan County Council reaffirms a commitment to address victims rights and criminal justice issues during 2000 Nashville, Tennessee Crime Victims Rights Week and throughout the year.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
