RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-358
A resolution proclaiming September 25, 2000, as Nashville Symphony Day.
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony attracts favorable national attention to Nashville, plays a key role in the citys economic development, and is essential to the high quality of life enjoyed by Nashvillians; and
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony has raised a $20 million endowment with broad support throughout the entire city, thereby, ensuring its financial strength in perpetuity; and
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony has attained new heights in artistic excellence under the able leadership of Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn, and garnered the praise of such leading national publications as the Wall Street Journal ; and
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony has signed a multi-CD contract with the worlds largest classical music label, Naxos, and its first two Naxos CDs garnered top national ratings and was an Editors Choice on Amazon.com; and
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony regularly attracts the worlds classical music artists for guest performances, including Van Cliburn, Yo-Yo Ma, Rostropovich, Isaac Stern and Luciano Pavarotti; and
WHEREAS, The Nashville Symphony is soon embarking on an East Coast Tour culminating in its debut performance at Carnegie Hall on September 25, 2000; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council, in consideration of the many valuable contributions The Nashville Symphony makes to Nashville and to commemorate its Carnegie Hall debut, proclaim September 25, 2000, as Nashville Symphony Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming Monday, September 25, 2000, as Nashville Symphony Day.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn and Executive Director Alan Valentine.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
