RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-392
A resolution honoring the occasion of the 115th anniversary of Zion Baptist Church.
WHEREAS, on Sunday, November 12, 2000, members of Zion Baptist Church will celebrate their 115th anniversary of the founding of the church; and
WHEREAS, Zion Baptist Church was founded in 1885, by the late Reverend Joseph Keil, who began the ministry in a white wood-framed building upon a hill on Brick Church Pike; and
WHEREAS, in September of 1962, Rev. Copeland relocated his flock, to Weakly Avenue were Zion Baptist Church stands to this day; and
WHEREAS, today Zion Baptist Church stands as an exact replica of Rev. Keil's original vision; and
WHEREAS, in August of 1996, the appointment of Reverend James Perry for the call of ministry to Zion Baptist Church who has brought new and innovative ideas to the church; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Zion Baptist Church on this special occasion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the occasion of the 115th anniversary of Zion Baptist Church.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Reverend James L. Perry on behalf of the congregation.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
