RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-522
A resolution recognizing the legacy of Miss Fannie Williams at the Woodbine Community Organization's Founder's Day Celebration for the purpose of honoring the Woodbine Community Organization's founder.
WHEREAS, the memory of Miss Fannie Williams was celebrated in the Woodbine Community, Saturday, March 3, 2001, and thereafter will be celebrated annually around her birthday, known as Founder's Day; and
WHEREAS, Miss Fannie Williams, a life-long resident of the Woodbine area, started a community organization in the 1930's as a sewing club, known today as the Woodbine Community Organization; and
WHEREAS, Miss Williams' efforts in organizing and opening a community center are responsible for supporting and unifying her neighborhood and leading people together; and
WHEREAS, the Founder's Day event provides neighbors and friends of the community a chance to reflect on the tremendous advances, great accomplishments, contributions, and tales of the rich history of her involvement in the community which in turn gives neighbors renewed vision, purpose and the strength necessary to continue in their work and every day life; and
WHEREAS, in remembering and continuing the many works and projects of Miss Williams, today's neighbors of Woodbine are part of a powerful and dynamic force in the community in continuing to keep her ideas on-going; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council express their condolences along with the Woodbine Community, but rejoice on Founder's Day in keeping the spirit of Miss Fannie Williams alive.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the legacy of Miss Fannie Williams at the Woodbine Community Organization's Founder's Day Celebration for the purpose of honoring the Woodbine Community Organization's founder.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Woodbine Community Organization in recognition of Founder's Day and in honor of the late Miss Fannie Williams.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
