RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-671
A resolution commemorating July 12, 2001, as "Alan Jackson Day" in Nashville, Tennessee.
WHEREAS, Alan Jackson is one of the most successful and acclaimed recording artists in the world; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, July 12, 2001, RCA Label Group, RLG/Nashville and its Arista Nashville label will commemorate Alan Jackson on his major career landmark of 35 million albums sold worldwide with a block party on Music Row; and
WHEREAS, Alan Jackson emerged on the scene in 1989, as Arista Nashville labels first country artist; and
WHEREAS, this multi-talented artist and songwriter has not only received countless honors, awards, #1 hits, top 5's and top 10's but Platinum albums; and
WHEREAS, in addition to these achievements during Fan Fair 2001 at the TNN & CMT Country Weekly Music Awards, Alan Jackson received six awards, and also was a big supporter of Fan Fair's move to downtown; and
WHEREAS, the impressive record of accomplishments demonstrated by this fine country artist is the result of his hard work, dedication, and musical talent displayed by each member of the band and the leadership and direction of Alan Jackson; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Alan Jackson, a stellar musician and a fine citizen, for his contributions to country music and the city of Nashville and wish him continue success in the music business.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as commemorating July 12, 2001, as "Alan Jackson Day" in Nashville, Tennessee.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Alan Jackson.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
