SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. SR2002-933
A substitute resolution declaring September 11th Patriot Day and requesting the Mayor to plan an appropriate annual memorial recognition.
WHEREAS, the tragic events of September 11, 2001, have brought about dramatic changes in our personal lives and our commitment to help others; and
WHEREAS, the events of September 11th have created an opportunity to unify the people of the United States in a common cause to promote our freedom, support human dignity, create basic understandings, and has strengthened our resolve to promote freedom throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that in order to encourage the continued efforts to promote the value of life, human dignity and freedom, that September 11th of each year be recognized as Patriot Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as declaring September 11th Patriot Day and requesting the Mayor to plan an appropriate annual memorial recognition.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
